What is a Development Edit?
A developmental edit focuses on the “big picture” elements of a story and helps you improve plot, character development, conflict, dialogue, tension, and other aspects of storytelling.
What does this service include?
- An initial consultation on Google Meets where we meet to talk about your book, and what your vision for it is.
- A full in-depth read through of your manuscript.
- Marginal comments throughout the document.
- A written editorial letter where I provide an in-depth analysis of your manuscripts and suggest edits the content and structure of your book. In this document, I explain why these issues are a problem and provide you with some solutions that might help you fix the problem. Here, I help you tackle issues concerning plot structure, tension (or lack thereof), conflict and dialogue, character development, pacing and storytelling.
- A follow-up meeting on Google Meets where we can address your questions about the editorial letter.
Bonus 1: Plot Roadmap of your manuscript
This is an outline and summary of the key scenes in your novel and what type of scenes are used to bridge between them.
Bonus 2: Comprehensive review of the scenes of your manuscript
This document outlines the goal of each one of your scenes and the five key points each scene should have: inciting incident, turning point, crisis, climax and resolution.
How many developmental edits do I book per month?
