What is a Sample Assessment?

A sample assessment is a revision of the first 50 pages or 3 chapters of your manuscript. The purpose is to begin highlighting aspects of the story, if any, still need improvement and to provide insight as to what professional editing can do for you.

What does this service include?

• An in-depth read through of the first 50 pages or 3 chapters of your manuscript.
• A written editorial letter where I assess the manuscript and provide observations and suggestions that can help you improve the story. These observations include, for example, the 5 things I look for in order to finish a book: Do I like the characters? Is the character’s goal or narrative drive strong enough to keep me invested in the story all the way to the end? Do I connect with the protagonist(s) and what drives them forward? Are they likeable or not? Is the storyline too complex or not complex enough? In this editorial letter, I provide you with suggestions and examples of other books that can show you how other writers keep readers invested in their stories.

Bonus:

Analysis of Chapter 1 to determine if it has: 1) Hook; 2) Point of Entry; 3) Set-Up for the Inciting Incident and 4) Inciting Incident.

How many sample assessments do I book per month?

Three. I only work on 3 sample assessments every month. New projects are only accepted the first week of every month.
